Long Walk Vineyard Mourvedre Rose wine

THE FIRST ESTATE VINES OF LONG WALK VINEYARD were planted between 2001 and 2003.  Originally, rootstock was established and then grafted over to the desired varietals.  In later years, already grafted vines were planted, thus eliminating the need for field grafting.  Just over 11 acres is planted – all Rhône varietals.  Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Cinsaut and Carignane allow Long Walk Vineyard to produce a variety of Rhône-style wines most closely related to the original Provence region of southern France, but with a distinctive Southern Oregon character.  In addition to the Rhône varietals, a small amount of Zinfandel is also planted.

Long Walk Vineyard annually produces approximately 1,500 cases of naturally produced, old world-style wine. Each vintage is it's own living entity - a tribute to the growing year it captures.

Our vineyard, like the rest of the estate, is certified organic by Oregon Tilth.

Rogue Valley Appellation

LONG WALK VINEYARD is located in the Rogue Valley winegrowing appellation of southern Oregon.  The site contained the historic Valley View Orchard until the grapes of Long Walk Vineyard were planted in the early 2000's.  Now the site contains both orchard and vineyard.  The original property was farmed beginning in the 19th century by several generations of the Wagner family - early Rogue Valley settlers.  This same family is the source of other local namesakes - Wagner Butte, Wagner Creek and Fort Wagner among others.  With tremendous views of the valley and a gently sloping south-facing orientation, the site is well suited both to farming of all types and being a desirable location for a pioneer family's homestead.

The property is located in the foothills of the Cascades at an elevation of 1900 to 2100 feet.  Soils are primarily Manita and Brader-Debenger loams - well draining shallow soils formed from sedimentary rock.  Padigan clay also exists in an area of an ancient streambed.

Valley View Orchard

Valley View Orchard, organic u-pick orchard in Ashland, Oregon

VALLEY VIEW ORCHARD operated as a commercial orchard growing cherries and pears from the early 1900's until the 1960's, when a variety of additional fruit trees were planted and a local u-pick and farm stand was established.  The u-pick and farm stand are still in operation today.  Fruits available for u-pick include five types of sweet cherries, a tart pie cherry, five types of apricots, three types of peaches, four types of apples and three types of pears. These same fruits are available in the farm store for those who would rather not pick from the trees, along with a small amount of fresh produce from neighboring farms. The farm store also has specialty products including fruit preserves, sauces, jams, ciders, vinegar and honey from the orchard's bee hives. Valley View's fruit can also be found at local stores and the Tuesday and Saturday Ashland Growers Markets.

In 2002 Valley View Orchard received organic certification by Oregon Tilth for all of its tree fruit.  In 2016 it received USDA GAP, or good agricultural practices certification, a strict set of food safety standards required for selling to schools and many other institutions and retail stores.
