2015 Zinfandel

Tasting notes: A hearty and satisfying wine produced in limited quantities. Black pepper, cherry, plum and tobacco notes. Pairs well with lighter meats such as turkey, quail or ham.

Varietal Information

Although Zinfandel was once considered to be an American varietal, later DNA testing proved it to be genetically identical to the grape long referred to as Primitivo in Italy and the Mediterranean. High in sugar, it often produces higher alcohol wines.

Zinfandel was thought to have been brought to the east coast of United States in the 1820’s from clippings of vines in Croatia, where Zinfadel is believed to have originated. During the California Gold Rush Zinfandel was brought west to California where it thrived in the soil and climate.

Before prohibition, it was the most widely planted varietal in California. Today Zinfandel is grown throughout much of the United States.
